Perfect Snacks for Weight Loss and Low Calorie Snacking

So here’s the background.  I was on a real roll with my weight loss until August 31, 2013, when I quit smoking.  I was 8 pounds from my goal weight and then, well, I replaced the cigarettes with food.  I promptly gained 20 pounds.  Ever since I have struggled with the hand to mouth issue and have gained and lost the same five pounds over and over for the last two years.  Recently I went on a search to find foods that would help you to feel full for minimal calories as I had started a rather intense workout program and my metabolism was through the roof, couldn’t get enough to eat.  One thing I found that was awesome was this Amazing Cabbage Soup for Weight Loss, each bowl has low calories and really helps a meal satisfy you.  In fact, adding cabbage to any meal will make it more filling for few calories.  But this article is about the perfect snacking foods so I digress.  I have found some awesome snacks that are super low calorie and seem to be able to satisfy my cravings, whether it be for sweet, salty or savory.

The mistake I made for a long time was to eat items that were healthy but not necessary low calorie like Cashews, oh I love cashews.  Another mistake people tend to make is to go for process snacks, but with that you really have to watch the sodium level, that can really have an adverse effect on anyone trying to lose weight.  Here is a list of the fantastic snacks that I have found and what cravings they satisfy for me, hopefully this will help you too if you are struggling with the same things.

Sweet

  • 1 serving 0% Plain Greek Yogurt  with 1 packet Now French Vanilla Stevia mixed in
  • Tea of your choice with 1 packet Now French Vanilla Stevia
  • Nectarine
  • Orange
  • Pear

Sweet & Savory

  • 25 Snap Peas with 2 Tbsp. Hummus
  • 10 baby carrots with 2 Tbsp. Light Ranch

Savory

  • Quaker Tomato & Basil Rice Cakes
  • Quaker White Cheddar Rice Cakes

Salty

  • Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop 100 Calories bags

Crunchy

  • Mix together 8 Cashews, 10 Almonds, and 20 Cranberries (this one is over 100 calories but I love it)

That’s what I have found so far, I will continue to add to this list if / when I find more awesome snacking ideas.  I have found that I really have to stay away from cookies, crackers and cupcakes.  If I have any of those items in the house I will eat the ENTIRE box.  I like to tell myself, oh I will just get rid of them all and then I won’t buy any more …. right.  Anyway hope this helps somebody out there, if it does drop me a line and let me know.
