Low Calorie Foods that help you feel full longer

If you want to lose weight but you are having trouble with feeling hungry all the time, here are some tips to help you feel full longer.

  1. 100% Whole Grain – Oatmeal, brown rice, black rice, and quinoa are low-calorie whole grains that will help you feel full and keep that feeling longer.  Eating oatmeal cooked in milk for breakfast will actually help you to avoid overeating later in the day.
  2. Vegetables like Broccoli, Celery, Cucumbers, Asparagus, Cauliflower, and Zucchini are what are known as negative calorie foods.  You burn more calories eating them than there are actually in them so feel free to munch on these veggies all day.
  3. Watermelon is an excellent source of fiber and great for keeping you hydrated.  Two cups of this sweet treat are less than 100 calories and contain nearly half the daily recommended intake of Vitamin C.
  4. Beans and Legumes are fantastic for weight loss. They also contain fiber, complex carbs, and a host of antioxidants and nutrients. Consider stocking up on chickpeas, black beans, black-eyed peas, lentils, fava beans, red kidney beans, and edamame.
  5. Low-Sodium, low-calorie broth-based soups at the beginning of a meal will help you to eat less and feel more satisfied.
  6. Low-fat or fat-free dairy products will help you to feel fuller.  Low-fat chocolate milk is an excellent post-workout recovery drink.
  7. Prunes are an excellent high fiber, filling snack that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
  8. Adding a low–calorie dip when snacking on raw veggies will help you to feel full longer.  Try hummus, guacamole, or low-fat ranch.
  9. Try including some lean protein with each meal to help ease your hunger.  Excellent sources of protein include chicken breast, white fish, lean ground turkey, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt.
  10. A baked potato with its skin on is an excellent source of potassium and is quite filling especially when topped with things like low-fat cheese, low-fat sour cream, broccoli, turkey bacon pieces.
  11. High fiber fruits like apples, grapes, and berries are great, just make sure you eat all your fruit earlier in the day as the sugar contained in it is better digested when you are your most active.
  12. Nuts like almonds, pistachios, and pecans are healthy fats that will help you feel full longer, just keep your portion sizes small like 10 nuts per serving.
  13. Green Tea is a natural appetite suppressant that is zero calories and high in anti-oxidants.
